NEW FRINGELESS TOWELS! Our Aegean collection is our most popular, made from 100% organic Turkish cotton with a high thread count for an extraordinarily soft towel. Each one is dyed but never bleached for perfect color saturation with an ecru background. Now available without fringe! Available in two sizes - standard size bath (27x54) and large bath/beach size (39x70).

Used for centuries in Turkish hamams, or baths, the pestemal (pesh-te-mahl) is the original “Turkish Bath Towel”. They are a soft and smooth, flat woven cloth, made by hand, usually from cotton, finished with fringes. The hand or hair towel size is called a peskir (pesh-kir).

These towels are known for their eco-friendly properties:

  • Highly absorbent, quick to dry, and will not collect sand
  • Lightweight and compact, fold flat, minimizes storage space
  • Naturally anti-bacterial – will not acquire a musty odor
  • Environmentally friendly – quick to wash and dry, saving energy
  • Perfect for the bath, the beach and so much more
  • Some of the weaves may need several washings and dryings to reach full absorbency and softness

Still an unknown

I bought this towel to take on an overseas trip, and as I've not yet taken the trip, I've not used the towel. The construction does appear to be good enough, although a little thinner than I would normally like (in this use, however, it is acceptable as it will be lighter and take less space for travel). Its absorbency is yet unknown. I mostly intend to use it if I spend any time at a beach, hoping it will give some measure of insulation from the sand, provide some moisture absorption, and dry quickly.
